Earthing system
is one of the most important pillars of power plants
, power stations.
etc.which is designed for protecting the health of employees
, equipment and machinery against dangers due to short
circuit , or thunderbolt . To do so , all machines and
metal structures should be connected by suitable conductors
to an earth network , which comprised of copper wires
, earth rod , copper plate , etc ....., to transfer
currents created by short circuit or thunderbolt to
this network and neutralize them .
The design and size of the earth network depends on
several factors , among which the speciai resistance
of the earth , moisture , chemical substances , and
temperature could be mentioned
• Exothermic welding system
Exothermic
welding is a process , which makes it possible to connect
two identical to nonsimilar conductors in different
size and shapes .the most major type of this kind of
connection is used in earthing network and the connection
is between copper conductors and steel plates .
There is no need for heat or external in this method , the created junction is molecular and is very resistant to corrosion. Meanwhile , the destructive effects of ordinary welding , like tangible tensions or change in the shape of the metal due to the in temperature are not observed here.
In this method , the special connecting powder is melted and poured with the help of suitable detonator and connects two conductors to each other .
• Lightning protection system
Thunderbolt
is created due to the collision and discharge of electric
charge resulted from charged ions . Thunderbolt has
caused several damages and destruction due to colliding
with erathor buildings . But it is possible to transfer
this natural event into the earth network through a
suitable route by lightning rods and copper conductors
of transfering this current .
